Security. Measured.

ImageTechnology infrastructure has risen from a minor requirement to an essential part of any business. As such it needs to be resilient from attack by automated worms, casual attackers and insiders, capable of safeguarding business critical information and meeting regulatory requirements. Penetration testing provides a means of benchmarking your security against policy, in order to identify, quantify and fill the gaps between high level policy and operational management.

What is a penetration test?

A penetration test is a means of evaluating the security posture of an environment. A wide variety of penetration test types exist, but the most common is aimed at the network layer. A penetration test provides a snapshot of where you are in terms of security at a specific point in time and enables businesses to identify areas where technical security could be improved. Why would I want a penetration test? There are many reasons to have a penetration test just as in the same way there are many drivers for security in general. Some of the more common reasons are:

  • Audit or Regulatory requirements (e.g FSA, SEC, Data Protection regulations and laws)
  • Part of 'sign off' procedure for a project Identify and quantify risks and threats facing organisation
  • Part of a long term strategy for continued security
  • Part of a certification process (e.g BS/7799, ITIL)
  • Corporate Security Policy (best practices)
